DISABLED NEIGHBOR NEEDS HELP!
Donation protected
Rose (age 72) and Donna (age 47) Hepworth are a mother/daughter who not only suffer from chronic illnesses and disabilities, both have endured different tragedies throughout the years. Earlier in life, a boating accident claimed the life of Rose’s 12 year old son and also the father & grandfather of Donna. A few years later, another tragedy was an automobile accident which claimed the life of Donna’s fiancé right outside the front of the home. Both events that left a mother & daughter enduring loss and depression.
After years went by, Rose could no longer work due to chronic health issues (Melanoma Cancer, Diabetes, & Asthma). This left Donna as the caretaker. However, Donna too suffers from health & disability issues (Tourettes Syndrome, Asthma & Depression) which has made it difficult for them as well. More so now.
Even though there have been some assistance available to them (Meals on Wheels, local charities during the holidays, neighbors pitching in to assist with minor repairs and lawn care), they have been faced with a home that is in severe need of repairs from electrical, plumbing and structural. And on top of all that, property taxes.
For anyone that is familiar with Long Island, we have a very high rate for property taxes. Rose has been struggling to make monthly payments of $200 out of her disability check. However, since the disability check and a small amount that Donna receives is their only source of income, there are some months that she cannot make the payments due to other bills (fuel, electricity and daily living). And certainly nothing extra for any repairs to the home. Because tax amounts have not been paid in full by the due date, penalties and interest are being added each month so only a very small portion of the payment is actually going to the principal. This has put them even further behind.
So we are reaching out for help! These are two very kind and sincere ladies and are well of deserving of help. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated!
