On the 5th November 2017, I will be presented with the opportunity to fulfil one my biggest dreams: Running the New York City Marathon. This dream has been with me for many years ever since I was introduced to running by my dear friend Maria and I completed my very first 5K run in August 2012. Since, running has become a new passion/obsession in my (busy) life and has enabled me to achieve things that I previously thought were impossible.
To make it even more special, I have decided to raise money for one of the charities which we, Steve and I, have always supported: Concern. The charity was founded by John and Kay O’Loughlin-Kennedy in 1968 as a response to the famine in the Nigerian province of Biafra. Since its foundation, Concern has gone on to work in over 50 countries, responding to major emergencies as well as working in long term development programmes. Today, with more than 3,200 staff of 50 nationalities, Concern operates in 26 of the world’s poorest countries, helping people to achieve major and long-lasting improvements in their lives. Concern continues to respond to emergencies. Its disaster risk reduction programme also aims to prepare people for catastrophes in vulnerable areas. Concern’s work is funded by members of the public, governments and other donors. Yet it is in constant need of improved goodwill and funds. Hunger and poverty continue to devastate lives in the developing world - Concern’s work is needed now more than ever.
