Nearly a decade ago over a dinner table of 30 in NYC our tradition of hosting citywide and neighborhood based dinners to build community started. (Video Below) It was rooted in the reality that as we've become more digitally connected, we've also become increasingly isolated, making it harder for adults and young adults all around the world to feel at home in their own cities.
We know how hard it is to feel at home when it seems at regular meeting places the only thing people are interested in when they meet you is what you do. We've thrown away this convention at our dinners, phone calls yet no phones at the dinner table, hugs and authentic fellowship since the first dinner in 2008.
Now 30 cities, 3 continents and nearly 300 volunteers later, we need your support to ensure our tradition continues so no matter who you are, where you live or what you do, you will always have a place where you are welcome and can to fellowship with your neighbors like family.
The Challenge
We’ve reached a point in our journey where we’re no longer able to continue the work of Our Family Dinner without financial support. This year we’ve seen for-profit organizations in the dinner arena, which secured millions of dollars in funding, shut their doors after less than 5 years in operations (dinner lab, kitchit).
As a nonprofit, without major outside funding nor a salaried team, we’ve run on sheer grace and the love of volunteers for over 8 years. We’ve only scratched the surface of our vision to serve you, still, with growing demand (i.e., 20 cities on hold), increasing operating costs and stretched volunteers, we’re facing what could either be the end of a beautiful journey or a new beginning.
If you believe in our mission and experienced the power of breaking bread with people in your life, we ask you to make a contribution today.
If we’re unable to raise $50K by July 1 we will celebrate what we’ve accomplished as a family yet, will face the difficult decision of writing the last chapter of our beautiful 8 year story.
In the spirit of servant leadership, our volunteers have made their statement stepping up to contribute nearly $10k since June 8 through peer fundraising like this.
We Welcome All Support:
We need you to help us get to $50K by July 1 by donating $45, the equivalent cost of a dinner today or at least $10 we would surpass our goal. All contributions are tax-deductible. We are grateful for gifts of any size!
