LES Student Designed Playground

Donation protected
I am a STEM teacher of 4th and 5th grade students in Yukon, OK. In my class we do hands on Science and Math projects that require the students to collaborate with each other and solve real life problems.

This year, we decided to design a playground that could be constructed on our current playground area. The students measured the current playground and designed items that would fit. They sketched and budgeted for the equipment, then built each piece to scale from donated trashy supplies. The students had to describe each piece of equipment and decide why it would be fun to have on the playground.  As a school, we voted to see what would be the best for us, and those are the projects featured in the video.

Currently, there are 16 students serving on a committee to make the final decisions on equipment and design what is actually built. This is where we need your help! I would really love for my students hard work to come to fruition on our playground. Because we are a former middle school, we have very little equipment for our students to enjoy at recess. We have about 150 kids at a time on the playground and we have 8 swings and a big toy to play on. We are in great need of something to occupy and engage our students. We appreciate all that you can do to help!
