Help for Olga with ALS disease
Donation protected
Olga is 28 years old and she used to work as a English tutor for young children. Now she has ALS and needs help.
In October 2015 she became the mom to her daughter Hania and since she never though anything would change her life to the worse.
Olga started to experience health problems after the labour to Hania, general discomfort, muscles and joints pains. These were not a side effects of childbirth and rather to decrease all pain started to increase. In January 2017 she spent a week in the specialist hospital in Warsaw and has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig's disease.
What is an ALS?
It is a specific disease which causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. ALS is characterized by stiff muscles, muscle twitching, and gradually worsening weakness due to muscles decreasing in size. This results in difficulty speaking, swallowing, and eventually breathing.
At its stage Olga’s disease is an incurable and progressive, and only possible cure is slowing the progression of the disease. One of the ways of doing so is transplantation of stem cells directly in to spinal cord.
In January 2018 Olga has classified to transplantation programme of Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin and she is now awaiting for series of surgeries. This programme however is depending on patient’s reaction and adaptation and it is not long term refunded by the National health Fund.
In the whole process of healing, slowing down the disease, rehabilitation also plays a very important role. Appropriate exercises significantly extend the period of better physical fitness.
Olga has a great support among her friends and family relatives. She wants to stay fit as long as possible to be able to raise Hania.
We will be very grateful for financial support by making donations for Olga’s further treatment and rehabilitation.
