Supply a Backpack for Kids in Neeed

California has close to 300,000 children in grade school who are considered homeless. Homeless children and families within our community have increased difficulties on a daily basis providing for themselves.  With that, they may not have the resources to ensure students have school supplies to succeed. Students who find themselves deficient of the proper school supplies may struggle with self-esteem and school connectedness. These increased risk factors could lead to poor attendance and academic performance.  Teachers often find themselves going above and beyond to provide students with the comfort of clothes, supplies, and relationships to support their learning needs. Though our schools receive federal funds to help support homelessness, it never feels like enough.

The struggles and needs of homeless children within our public schools are significant. We can work together to create the changes necessary to positively impact their education and lives. One Love Project of the Central Coast has connected with Paso Robles Joint Unified School District to help supply homeless students with school supplies needed to start the 2017-2018 school year.  Suzanne Balderrama, Intervention Specialist at Winifred Pifer Elementary and Pat Butler Elementary, has collaborated with the One Love Project to organize the campaign to support students within PRJUSD.  The One Love Project goal is to provide 100 students with backpacks full of essential school supplies. While these school supplies can be used at school by the students, the intention of the campaign is to provide students and families with the necessary materials to transcend learning into the home.   

One Love Project is asking the community for help with donations to meet our goal of supporting students within PRJUSD. Each fully stocked backpack will cost $25 dollars. We are asking for cash donations as well as donations of items that are listed below:
