JoJo Gingerhead's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected

Jojo is a 31 year old Brighton (UK) based artist and musician who has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice within the last year. Her most recent diagnosis of secondary triple negative breast cancer has metastasised to her liver, and is considered incurable.

She has been given a worst-case scenario prognosis of 6 months - but she hasn't stopped fighting like hell.

There are many costs involved with having cancer: private treatments; alternative treatments; and travel expenses -  to name but a few. She is currently researching the best and most effective treatment for her types of cancer, and this may involve going abroad to places that offer treatments not available in the UK.

Even with a plan in place, treatment can change suddenly depending on how the cancer behaves and where it spreads. For example, the costs of chemotherapy drugs can range from £20,000 to £90,000 per year. A treatment called the Cyber Knife which blasts radiation into hard to reach tumours can cost an estimated £22,000. Private consultations cost between £250-£350.  We can't even estimate what other private treatment, surgery, travel and accommodation expenses might incur as her situation is currently so uncertain.

She is determined that this cancer will not be the death of her any time soon, but realises that time is not on her hands. We are trying to fundraise as much money as we possibly can to cover upcoming expenses as she battles to try and save - or at least prolong - her life.

Despite her deteriorating health, she is determined that something positive come of her diagnosis and endeavours to help and support others affected by cancer as much as she can. This includes campaigning for access to cancer drugs on the NHS and improving cancer services in the UK (currently we are far behind many of the other countries in Europe). She is documenting her story on her blog The Malignant Ginger in the hope that it provides knowledge and raises awareness that breast cancer and secondary breast cancer can affect anyone, no matter what age.

In the event of the worst case scenario happening, she would like all of this money to go towards research into pioneering secondary breast cancer treatment. Please give and share.
