Momma Shud's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
I've started this campaign to help my mom, Michelle Shudrowitz, fight her battle with cancer. My mom is the definition of what a hero is. She's a nurse who spent her whole life helping others, always putting the needs of her family - my brother (Jeff), my dad (Jack) and me - and others ahead of her own. This May, my mom and dad will be celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary. They have always set a good example for my brother and me. They are the best parents I could ever ask for. Now, it's my turn to do something for them so they can celebrate more anniversaries in the future.
In November 2014, my mom was diagnosed with Stage 1A lung cancer. I couldn't understand how this could happen since she is not a smoker. But she took it in stride and immediately had the affected part of her lung removed. She thought she was cured.
To celebrate her recovery, she and my dad went on a weeklong vacation to Florida. Upon their arrival she had difficulty breathing. My dad rushed her to the hospital where she soon discovered that the cancer had spread and reached Stage 4. The doctors were in shock. They couldn't believe how aggressively it spread. Since then, there have been numerous hospital visits, chemotherapy treatments, and operations to try to control the cancer. Due to these extensive treatments, she is unable to work at this time. She has a big challenge ahead of her. But my mom is a fighter and she is determined to conquer it.
The medical bills are beginning to pile up and the medication she is taking is tremendously expensive, even with health insurance. On top of that, I just started my freshman year of college. My parents were already burdened with that expense, so the financial stress is starting to take a toll. I want my dad to be able to focus his energy on caring for my mom, not the bills.
I hope you will consider helping my mom fight this battle. No amount is too great or small.
On behalf of my mom and my family, thank you and God bless you!
Love, Meg
