Michael's IPad
Donation protected
Michael was born with a rare genetic condition called EEC Syndrome. He is missing fingers and toes and some didn't separate properly. He has had 6 surgical procedures since he was born in July 2012.
He has occupational therapy for sensory processing disorder and issues related to his EEC twice month and we are moving to weekly. He has speech therapy weekly in his daycare and has been diagnosed with apraxia. He also has developmental therapy in his daycare twice a month. We have to pay out of pocket for all of these services. Our healthcare plan will not help purchase the ipad even though it is recommended by his healthcare professionals.
Michael will be 3 in July and has maybe 20 consistently used words. The combination of his speech, physical needs and sensory issues can make life very difficult for him to communicate. We currently use a communication book, but his therapist thinks he would respond better to a customized digital communication book. That software is hundreds of dollars alone. Having researched the apps for speech I have realized they are almost all specific to the ipad. We have a tablet at home, but it is an android. With the costs of the apps we will have to buy and the costs of all of Michael's medical care and surgeries past, present and future we could really use the help to purchase an ipad. The ipad would be used for helping Michael communicate better and increase his vocabulary. We will use this money to purchase the ipad, a protective case and some of the apps his speech therapist recommends.
Your consideration is very much appreciated. My blog has more information about our journey. There is also a video about Michael's journey with regard to surgeries. We appreciate your help. I promise you that it will benefit both Michael and our family! Thank you!
