Rob and Tammy in Zimbabwe
Donation protected
Hello, we are Rob and Tammy - a maths teacher and a mental health nurse respectively currently living in Nottingham. Thanks for visiting our page! We are heading out to Zimbabwe from August 2016 for a year to try and use our skills to support people and communities where we may be able to help in some way.
Tammy was born in Zimbabwe and since has been back on an elective placement to work with ZIMNAMH (Zimbabwe National Association for Mental Health) a great organisation who do great work in mental health but are unfortunately restricted by limited resources and a lack of funding for the mental health services. Mental health in Zimbabwe has a huge stigma attached to it and it is widely misunderstood which in many cases has resulted in the mistreatment of people experiencing mental health issues.
Tammy's work with this organisation in Harare will involve using her mental health skills and experience to support vulnerable individuals, as well as raising awareness of mental health and carrying out training in local communities.
Rob will be working with an organisation called 'Cross Over' who provide education for vulnerable children. Within that context he will be training and resourcing the teachers/mentors who work as part of 'Cross Over', whilst also helping to structure and develop their maths curriculum.
Neither of us will be paid and so we will be relying on kind donations to get us through the year. We will be hugely grateful for any donation that you feel you can make - the money will be used primarily for our day-to-day living out in Zimbabwe whilst we volunteer, and also may go towards any additional costs such as flights. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our page - we really appreciate it!
Rob & Tammy
P.s. We will be sending out monthly newsletters of what we are up to whilst out there, so if anyone would like to be a recipient, please let us know :)
