Help Build Pancake & Dayo a Lure Training Ground at Wildlife Safari!

Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon is the number two cheetah breeding facility in the world, and the number one cheetah breeding facility in the northern hemisphere. Help support Pancake & Dayo's goal to educate the world on the vital importance of animal & species preservation by highlighting their unique relationship by supporting their health and wellness.

A Lure System for Amazing Animals

A cheetah lure system is a great way to exhibit the ability of the world’s fastest land mammal.  The lure offers the cheetah engaging exercise and enrichment by feeling “the chase” while giving keepers and interns the chance to point out all the of the special features of cheetah physiology and how they are built for speed.  We have also paired a dog with one of our cheetahs, who naturally loves to run and will hopefully run the lure with his companion cheetah, Pancake.  We are excited to give this pair a place to really stretch their legs and to give the public a really great viewing option of our world famous Pancake and Dayo cheetah dog duo in the main Wildlife Safari drive thru!

Cheetah & Dog, an Unexpected Friendship

Pancake, a cheetah, and Dayo, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, have been the best of pals since shortly after their births on February 28, 2015. As we prepare to celebrate their first birthdays, we reflect on the unique relationship of these two animals. But Pancake & Dayo's friendship is more common (and more important) than you might think. In Africa, about 120 cheetahs are killed each year as a result of the threat they pose to the cattle of ranchers and farmers. But cheetahs are skittish animals and so, organizations such as the Cheetah Conservation Fund and Cheetah Conservation Botswana (an organization supported by Wildlife Safari's Conservation Committee) provide training and research for farmers to train dogs how to chase off the cheetah that may otherwise threaten their herds. These programs have seen a drastic difference in the amount of wild cheetah (classified as a vulnerable species) being killed. Pancake and Dayo have happily made it their goal to educate the public on this vital conservation effort worldwide.

Cheetah Conservation in Winston, Oregon

In 1974, Dr. Laurie Marker helped launch Wildlife Safari's cheetah-breeding program. In her 16 years at Wildlife Safari, the program developed into the most successful cheetah-breeding program in North America. That program has now grown to the number two program in the world. None of Wildlife Safari's non-profit activities would be possible without the support of the local, national & international conservation communities.

We hope you will consider supporting this internationally renowned institution in our mission of conservation and education.
