Reforestation and Education project
Donation protected
Hello I’m Ben Cooper a photographer based on the Gold Coast. For the last 8 years I’ve been working with non profit organisations conducting reforestation of the Peruvian amazon and working to assist remote jungle communities elevate their standard of living to a level where basic need are met.
In 2016 with the help of Core healthcare group and working with the kcosnipata Association for conservation in peru we’ve begun a new volunteer reforestation and education project in the town of Pilcopata, a town where 95% of children are unable to attend school because the average family household incomes is less then $17 a day.
This lack of income exacerbates the issue of deforestation as families are forced to cut primary forest trees to be exported for luxury furniture creating a cycle that is impossible to break unless something is done about the education deficit in these remote communities.
Using all profits from the sale of my photography, donations raised through Go Fund me and support from Core Healthcare group, we’re gathering funding necessary for human resources needed to help with education and infrastructure essential to see the completion of the reforestation project. We’re also helping theKcosnipata Association for Conservation develop an eco tourism industry to bring tourist dollars into these communities so people of the amazon can create a better future for themselves.
Our main focus when we return in July 2016 is to restablish the school in Pilcopata and build the volunteer house to house volunteers for the reforestation project. For this stage of the project we will need $45000.
The work ahead will take funding and many hands but is and investment that represents an opportunity for much need change and an investment in the future of the amazon, it’s people and our planet.
