Pig Shelter for Happy Hooves Farm

Most pigs raised for food live in terrible unnatural conditions. Pigs are very intelligent social creatures that thrive in family units and community settings. We like to raise our pigs outdoors in the open air under sunshine where they can live more natural lives with room to run, the ground to root in, and the opportunity to socialize in family units and community. To live like this requires some special access to shelter for shade and protection from rain, wind, biting cold.  Until now we have used small individual unit portable shelters that we build. Pigs are really tough on things, their physical strength is incredible. They love to tear things apart for play and once they damage their portable shelter it leaves them open to the elements. it has been a nightmare trying to keep up with the damage control and they always seem to do it right before a storm.
We want to get serious about our humane pig raising venture and need a good permanent structure that the pigs can access any time they want.
We have a perfect field on our farm for this and a plan that would include a large permanent centrally located shelter for our pigs to find shade in the summer and shelter in the winter that will also allow complete access to the outdoors with controlled rotation of field paddocks to maintain their good health. This shelter would offer family units for sows with their piglets as well as a community area for all to socialize in. To complete our plans we need to raise $50,000 to add to the personal funds we already have available.  This would be like a 50/50 match. We kick in half, and ask our friends, family, customers, and fellow animal lovers to collectively kick in the other half. We hope to offer a working model of this system to other farms to raise the welfare standards for these marvelous creatures all over the country.
