Bring the Al Taha family to safety in Canada

The Al Taha family has been torn apart by war and violence and Grace United Church Quebec, along with hundreds of Canadians, is doing everything it can to reunite this family and bring them to safety in Canada.
The Al Taha’s escaped the war in Syria and fled to Lebanon in 2013. They have been waiting for a new country to call home ever since.
Earlier this year, Akyla Al Fares suddenly found herself as head of her household when her husband Kuder Taha was accidentally electrocuted to death in their makeshift apartment in Beirut. She is now without any source of income and is alone with her children Husni, Fatema, Hussein and Mohammad. Three days before her husband died, their daughter Zainab fled to her parents’ home for protection from an abusive husband.
As two adult women living with four dependent children, and without an adult male relative in the home, Akyla and Zainab are extremely vulnerable. Amnesty International reports that Syrian refugee women on their own are at a very high risk of exploitation and violence.
Quebec has approved Grace United Church’s request to bring the family to Canada. Requests for Permanent Residency status have been sent to Canada. We are confident that Canada will approve these requests.
Once in Canada, Akyla, Zainab, Husni, Fatema, Hussein and Mohammad will be reunited with Hanan Al Taha, daughter and sister, who will help her family adjust to life in Canada.
Our goal is to to raise at least $35,000 to meet this family’s needs during their first year in Canada. So far, over $15,000 has been donated by generous, compassionate Canadians.
Note that Grace United Church Quebec can issue tax receipts.
