Oregon POMC Memorial Wall

Tax deductible
Eight years ago, the Greater Portland Area Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children began fundraising to build a memorial wall.  We wanted to have a place to come together and honor our children in a peaceful, safe place nestled amongst the redwood trees and beautiful views of Mt. Hood at Mounain View Cemetary in Oregon City, Oregon.   The memorial site includes running water over massive columns of stone which represent the tears that are shed from when a loved one is murdered.   The idea of the first wall came from loved ones who needed a place to honor those who have been murdered.

The initial memorial wall was built 2 years ago and it was believed 500 engraved names was sufficient for the memorial and would last many years.   Unfortunately, we have a list of 50 new names to be added to the wall.
POMC Oregon/Washington kicked off its second fund raising in January 2015 to expand the wall.

Each year on the Annual Day of Remembrance for Victims of Homicide, held in September, families and friends of loved ones gather to pay their respects and remember.  Having their loved one remembered is most important to a co-victim of homicide.  Homicide cannot be resolved.  Members meet and talk with others who understand the pain and understand the life changing event.  We come together to support one another and not to judge.   We share a common situation, we are free to express any emotion: anger, sadness, frustration, and laughter.

Members are not charged to have their loved ones name placed on the memorial wall.  Some make donations, but no one is turned away.

Please join us at the Annual Day of Remembrance on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Mt. View Cemetery, 500 Hilda Street, Oregon City, OR 97045 at 1:00 pm.   There will be speakers, music, and the names of our loved ones will be read out loud.  This year we will also honor police officers in Oregon and Washington who lost their lives in the line of duty.  After the ceremony, we will have a barbeque and desserts for those attending.  It is a wonderful time for us to visit and share with other co-victims and friends.  Everyone is invited.
