Protect the Sea Turtles of Mahahual

Donation protected
I hope 2017 was a good year for all of you. Thanks to everyone who supported our efforts last year. We just returned from Mahahual, Mexico and are really impressed with the work Victor has accomplished.
He now has official approval to setup a non-profit organization for the protection of the turtles!!!

We accomplished a lot last year and look forward to even more progress this year. As Victor said in his video, it is time to start preparing for the nesting season now with beach cleanup and signage. It is also very necessary to have uniforms for the patrol volunteers so as to identify them to the locals.

Personally, even watching one newborn turtle make it's way to the sea is extremely rewarding. With Victor's and his volunteer's efforts, and your monetary donations, many turtles have already been saved. If there is any way you could give your support to this very worthwhile cause, we would all really appreciate it.

Thanks for your past support and hope you and others can help.

Sincerly
Rex Farley & Laurie Erskine- Farley

Victor Rosales' almost single-handed quest to save endangered sea turtles eggs from poachers is a project we wholeheartedly support, and hope you will, as well.  We can attest to Victor's knowledge, veracity, and selfless passion for his Caribbean environment, and Mayan culture, through years of sharing in his guided Mahahual Ecotours business, and he has become a great friend and environmental ally.

Victor is a local leader who has worked to educate his local community, as well as tourists as the world evolves.  He has lead beach clean-up, wildlife preservation, recycling programs, sustainable fishing practices, etc. as he runs his tour business without governmental or business support. But now needs help to protect the fragile turtles and their eggs.

The population of the indigenous and endangered sea turtles has been desseminated over the years, especially with the unintentional destructive practices of locals and toursits.  Climate change and the warming ocean has also added to the situation where immediate turtle egg preservation is crucial.

To address this impending catastrophe, Victor has brought scientific training to Mahahual, has acquired the government certification to lead this project, has applied for grants, but this is a long process, and funding is not immediately forthcoming.  This is why we have started this Go Fund Me project.

As Victor said in his video, the funds will be used for the following:

·        Food & transportation for volunteers who patrol the beach at night protecting the eggs from poachers

·        Trucks & fuel to haul garbage to local disposal sites

·        Tools and equipment like: infrared flashlights, garbage bags, signs...

·        Educational materials to share with schools and community

·        Support a possible campaign to disseminate chickens with pens to replace the dietary need for turtle eggs

If you would like more information regarding Victor and  Mahahual Ecotours check out his website, or through tripadvisor or facebook.

Sincerely,
Rex Farley & Laurie Erskine-Farley
