Keith's Stem Cell Transplant
Donation protected
Keith Nienhuis is a sweet husband and a wonderful father of four boys. They have a busy family life with Keith working as a farmer raising hay, straw, rye, pumpkins, as well as making bead board for local lumber yards. His wife Nichole works at the Family Research Council, and their family lives in Holland, Michigan.
One day, Keith noticed that work and everyday life was becoming more and more difficult for him. After many doctor's visits, Keith was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on April 7, 2015.
MS is a neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system and disrupts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. More than 2.3 million people are affected by MS worldwide.
Unfortunately, Keith's MS is progressing quickly and he has seen little success from the medication he is currently taking. Since his diagnosis, he has been battling double vision, numbness and tingling in his feet, legs, and arms, fatigue, brain fog, nausea, and weakness throughout his whole body. It has been incredibly hard for Keith's family to watch someone they love be overtaken by such a horrible disease so quickly.
Keith has been accepted into Dr. Richard K. Burt's Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) where a high dose of chemotherapy is used in conjunction with one's own stem cells to "reboot" the immune system. HSCT erases the immune system's memory which stops the underlying MS disease activity and allows the body a chance to repair itself. The transplant will take place at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Keith has to be off his medication for 3 months before they can begin. And because Keith needs to begin as soon as possible, he has already stopped taking his medication. They are prayerfully hoping to have the transplant after January 1, 2016.
Unfortunately, the insurance Keith and Nichole have does not cover this procedure and they need your help. They have faith that God will provide for them, and have kept an amazing attitude throughout this stressful situation. The doctors require payment of $125,000 before they will schedule the transplant. Without insurance coverage, they need your help raising the full $125,000.
Please join us in giving prayerfully and financially to the Nienhuis family through this tough time. Any amount would be a blessing.
