Help Alyx Keep Their Home!!!

My name is Alyx. I'm 22 (soon to be 23) and currently I live in Toronto, Ontario. I'm a non-binary unemployed student in an amazing program known as the Assaulted Women's and Children's Counsellor/Advocate program. I hope to one day work with at-risk youth in shelters and day programs and go on to be a guidance counsellor at a high school. By the time I graduate, I will be $20k in debt from tuition and living expenses provided by OSAP.

I grew up in poverty and was kicked out of my dad's home at 19. I've survived on my own this long and lived with my mother for a little while until I could go to school. She works as a crossing guard and takes care of my severely autistic brother with what little money she has. The only way I could afford to go to school was with OSAP. However, the school year is drawing to a close, and I have run out of money to support myself with.

I have been attempting to find a job since I moved to Toronto in September but with no luck. There aren't many places who would support someone with a non-binary identity.  My rent for the place that I live, one of the cheapest and most accepting places I could find, is $450 a month. I used up all of my savings on text books and transportation to school when I moved here, and right now I am down to $37.41 in my bank account and am racking up more debt by using my Visa to buy groceries and tokens for transportation to school.

I have my last month's rent (April) but after that, if I don't have enough money, I will lose my home and will either be homeless in the city or return to live with my mother and have to drop out of school.

My work at school is what is keeping me healthy and sane, and if I lose that, I don't know what kind of a state I would be in. I need to finish school so I can help my community and youth who are facing struggles with their gender identities, sexual/romantic orientations, and overall mental health.

I am asking for help so I can keep myself in my home and with enough groceries to help me last until I can find a job or get OSAP funding again. I'm scared that I won't find one soon due to my identity and will be evicted as a result.

Please, if you can, help a non-binary student stay in the positive, healthy environment so they can go on to help others in the future.

Thank you very much.
