Are you a resident of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and worried that with all of the new warehouse construction, our city will become another Antioch or Lavergne? Or are you a resident of Wilson County, surrounded by or adjacent to Mt. Juliet city limits, and worried about what the city might build next to your neighborhood? You may have never heard of Mt. Juliet, but you have fought, or are fighting city hall and big development where you live and know what a David versus Goliath proposition it is to take a stand the city when big money is on the other side. Or maybe you just hate Panattoni for some huge development they built near your property. If your answer is YES to any of these scenarios, then we need your help.
My name is David Plott and I live in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee on Hunting Hills Drive. I and my neighbors found out last month that the City and Panattoni, a huge warehouse developer, want to build a 1 million square foot distribution center on the cul-de-sac at the end of our street. This would extend an existing industrial park which is adjacent to but not visible from the back yards of the residents on the east side of our neighborhood, to an area which is in the front yards of the folks at the end of our street.
We live in a rural residential community that has been in existence for 40 years, surrounded by the City of Mt. Juliet. This 24-hour operating distribution center will destroy the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood with diesel trucks running in and out around the clock, and drastically reduce our property values, probably the biggest investment most of the residents possess. We have formed a neighborhood association, and retained the services of an attorney to represent our interests. We are having t-shirts printed up, buying newspaper ads, hiring consultants and other activities which cost money. We have raised a substantial amount from the residents, but there are only 30 homes in the neighborhood, and many of the residents are retired and living on fixed incomes. We have enough to pay our attorney through the first reading before the Board of Commissioners on April 13, but have no illusions that our troubles will be over after that.
Please help us to continue the fight until we have triumphed over this monstrous intrusion into our community. The NW Rutland Road & Hunting Hills Neighborhood Association has set up a SAVE MOUNT JULIET account at Wilson Bank, and all donations will go to pay for legal and associated expenses in our fight to save our neighborhood. Any unused funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society, since we have at least 3 residents in the neighborhood struggling with this terrible disease. Thank you for any support you can give.
