Support the CDCH Inclusion School!

Tiny School Devoted to Special Needs Kids Needs Your Help!

There’s Only One CDCH

There is a mighty little school in the hamlet of Wainscott on the East End of Long Island.  Students are bussed from as far as 90 minutes away in order to attend the Child Development Center of the Hamptons www.cdch.org because the mission of our school is so absolutely unique.  The shifting educational landscape has presented us with some short-term financial hurdles, and we would greatly appreciate your help.

Originally founded in 1997 by a local parent, Dawn Zimmerman, in order to provide her autistic son, Jon, with a comprehensive social and educational program, CDCH has gone on to serve many families over the course of the last eighteen years.  We are a fully inclusive charter and preschool program that integrates children with special needs into successful learning teams with neurotypical peers.  Here are a few heartfelt testimonials from families who have been the beneficiaries of our school’s noble mission:

“When you have a school where the staff is committed to designing the curriculum  around the child and putting the student first you are bound to have a successful formula.  CDCH offered our son an alternative learning experience that was both nurturing and specifically designed for his needs.  The staff prides themselves on high academic standards, small class sizes and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Our family will eternally be grateful to the staff of CDCH for their non-wavering efforts in advocating for the needs of our son.”

--Kirsten and William Reddan, Appreciative Parents

“CDCH is more than a school, it’s a family.  A nurturing environment where everyone is loved and everyone is accepted.  There is no experience greater than the CDCH experience.”

--Carlene Elio, Grateful Mother

“What I love about C.D.C.H. is that whichever classroom you’re in, it's as if everybody is welcome no matter how different they might be.  Kids with special abilities can learn together with other kids by getting used to each other early.  Together they learn new things by teaching each other.  This is why I love C.D.C.H.”

“I would highly recommend CDCH to any parent looking for a warm, nurturing learning environment for their child.  When the cookie-cutter, district schools failed my children, the caring, dedicated staff at CDCH went above and beyond to help pick up the pieces.  In a few short weeks, the difference in our children was amazing! They were excelling academically and socially, even showed renewed confidence. Those few years at CDCH provided a solid foundation for them to flourish even now at the public middle and high school levels!  My children still refer to CDCH as "the best school on the planet" and love to go back to visit!”

“My daughter was very shy, had difficulty making friends and was struggling in school so I decided to try a small school setting.  She attended CDCH for 2 years and returned to her "home school" this year.  She has such self confidence and has  transitioned back a different person.  She has joined the band, made honor roll both quarters, volunteers at the animal shelter and has been in the school play!  She wasn't even nervous when all her friends were!  CDCH gave my daughter the foundation and encouragement she needed to gain her self esteem and I am so thankful we had a choice and made the right choice.”

“When I first started here, I did not know what to expect, but after all of my 5 years  here with the support of my friends and teachers, it was very exceptional.  All of the teachers were very nice and they helped me get through everything.  Even though I  dealt with rough times and even the best of times here, they have always been there for me.  Classes became fun and awesome and I was so honored to be a student  there.  I think of CDCH not just as friends but my family too because of all of the positive skills and emotions they taught us here. With much love and devotion I see that every child in the CDCH family has a bright and successful future.”

“Our family has sent four children to C.D.C.H. since 2003 and will continue to send our youngest another few years.  This family-oriented school provides a warm, safe,  inclusive environment that promotes each child's awareness of their strengths.  Every pupil progresses at their own rate.  Children who need more time may review and repeat lessons as needed with help.  Children ready and eager to move ahead have the independence to do their own research-based learning.  A rich curriculum  incorporates the fine and performing arts, physical activity and essential social and life skills into every core academic subject.  The staff, families and students at this inclusive school have cooperatively cultivated an environment where every student can improve in a supportive atmosphere.”

--Virginia Tran, Mother of Four CDCH Students

During its meeting on March 6th, 2015, the Charter Schools Committee of the SUNY Board of Trustees granted CDCH a Full-Term Renewal of five years. CDCH believes in maintaining a small teacher-to-student ratio in order to maximize individualization and foster a sense of interconnectedness with the entire school community.  We believe that the special educator’s lens is a potential benefit to all learners.  Our mission is centered upon the preservation of dignity for all students and the belief that the classrooms our children inhabit should reflect the world they will one day be expected to join—a world where our similarities vastly outweigh our differences.

The Child Development Center of the Hamptons is a school in good academic standing in New York State. Your donation right now could help us to continue our noble work.
