Try to take over-er-save the world

Donation protected
Well hey there! So! If you don't know me, my name is Vanessa. I'm here today -- YOU'RE here today -- because I was accepted to the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, “a global network of activists committed to taking on the climate crisis and solving what is far and away the greatest challenge of our time.” http://climaterealityproject.org/leadership-corps

So these guys choose leaders from all over the world (me!) and make them even more exceptional. This September, I will travel to Miami for three days of intense training in climate science, communications and organizing. I will enhance my ability to tell the climate change story and inspire communities to take action.

Those of you who know me know that I'm an avidly passionate individual for our environment -- our home -- and conserving and sustaining our home in perpetuity. But, like most young adults, I've wrestled with the balance of choosing both personally and professionally valuable decisions in regards to education and job opportunities, and ideally, those that pay the bills and/or lessen the loans! Although I’ve made my contributions to this movement in many small ways and for many years, it’s time to do So. Much. More.

The Climate Reality Leadership Corps is provided to me at no charge. I will meet and learn from some of the most amazing climate change leaders in the world. However, I do have to get myself down there (and find a pillow on which to rest my tired head after each full day of training).

So… wanna help a sistah out?! Yeah?!

Honestly, this is my first time fundraising for myself, and it feels a little weird. But this is my charge; every bone and cell in my body and brain knows the climate crisis is where I need to send my strengths. I know this when I am biking though traffic jams – weaving in and out of hundreds of single occupied vehicles and breathing in their smog and smoke. I know this when I see trash littering our streets, parks and waterways. I know this when I see horribly obese children with asthma and allergies and no access to fresh fruits and veggies. And I also know this when I hike to the top of a mountain, overlook a sparkling sea, or adoringly observe my sweet niece play with toothpicks and pineapple chunks. This is the right thing to do.

Although this is not a battle that can be won alone, I know not everyone can help in the same way. But you CAN help! If you believe in this – if you believe in me – please give what you can. With every single dollar you’re able to contribute, basically YOU are saving the world… through me. Pretty awesome, right?!

Please help send me to Miami this September guys! And thank you!
