Tess's Tufts summer Program
Donation protected
Dear family and friends,
I hope you are all well. As many of you know, I am currently a junior in high school at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School in South Hadley, MA. In addition to my standard college preparatory academic schedule, I am completing an arts concentration in Musical Theater. I plan to attend college to study theatrical directing and social justice.
I have recently been accepted into a very prestigious summer program called Tufts Summit. This program is organized by Tufts University and is located in Talloires, France. Tufts Summit invites high school students to develop a greater understanding of the global village they will call home. While improving their French language skills, students are introduced to the complex world of international politics and diplomacy through classroom instruction, exploration of French culture, and field trips to local sites of historic importance and natural beauty.
This program challenges high school students to see beyond the assumptions they share with most Americans about the purpose and practice of government, the nature of family and community, and the origins of war and peace. Students have the opportunity to experience full French language immersion while living with a family near the school.
I was selected to be a part of this program from a pool of hundreds of applicants, and it really feels like the chance of a life time. The program runs for four weeks in July 2015 and costs $5700, plus airfare and textbooks. I have received a $1500.00 scholarship from Tufts, and I have about $500.00 of my own that I have earned from working in a local restaurant and babysitting. I need to raise $3000 more. If you are able to donate any amount in support of my trip, I will be incredibly grateful.
Attending this program is very important to me. I believe I will gain essential life skills that will help me reach all of my artistic and academic goals. In this program, I will study international relations as well as solidify my knowledge of the French language, both of which will aide me in my crusade against social injustice in the world. I also believe that this program will further my self-awareness as a student and as a teenager encroaching on adulthood. I will develop self-determination and independence while studying abroad and fully immersing myself into another culture. I am sure that Tufts Summit will change my life, and I truly hope, with your support, that change will be possible.
