Race 4 Nepal

Donation protected
We are Jack Linehan and Jeff Clark, friends, roommates, and aspiring ski mountaineers from Aspen, Colorado.

We hope to raise $25,000 for the construction of permanent homes in Lalitpur, Nepal, a small community ravaged by the April 25, 2015 earthquake. The earthquake devastated one of the world's poorest countries and has left millions in dire need of help from the outside world.

Our mission is to rally the Aspen community around our cause by competing in the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse, considered one of the most grueling ski mountaineering races in the world. The race begins at midnight in Crested Butte and finishes in downtown Aspen, between 7 and 17 hours later, depending on fitness. Weather during the race can range from calm gusts and balmy temperatures to frostbite-inducing blizzards. To compete this daring odyssey each team must overcome significant mental and physical strain. The race is raw and primordial, a true test of human will power. In sharing the tradition and mystique of this wonderful race, we hope to illuminate the parallels between the Nepalese mountaineering culture and that of the Rocky Mountains.

Our fundraising efforts will culminate with an event at Justice Snow’s restaurant in downtown Aspen on Sunday, March 20th, one week before the race.

One hundred percent of the money we raise will go towards building materials and transportation costs of materials. We have partnered with a vetted and reliable organization called CASD-Nepal (Common Action for Sustainable Development), with which we have a personal connection through close friends.

We are extremely grateful for the gifts and opportunities our beautiful Rocky Mountains give us. In that spirit we want to give hope back to our brothers and sisters in the Himalaya by affording them the ultimate gift we take for granted every day: a roof over their heads.

We would be eternally grateful for any kind of donation, whether it be in the form of money, or passionate enthusiasm. We know with each donation we are approaching a momentous achievement: bringing dignity and happiness to our friends in Nepal. It will be an uphill climb to reach our ultimate goal, but that is why we love to uphill ski!
