Rae N. Seaton Family Memorial Fund

Donation protected

We lost a vibrant, loving soul in the early morning hours of October 21st when Rae Naoe Seaton passed away. She was the most devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend anyone could ever hope for.

The most important thing in Rae’s life was family. Rae and Dennis were married for 54 years, and she lived for the joy of her children and grandchildren. While raising Cathy and Marcus in Dubuque, she loved nothing more than to have a house full of kids hanging out in the basement. She was like a second mother to many. Later in life, she was overjoyed to have a house full of boisterous screaming Hawkeye fans with her grandchildren running about. Actually, she was often the loudest fan, yelling and cheering to the amusement of all.

Rae always put others first, even outside of her family. Her work over the years an ESL teacher in the Dubuque Community School District touched the lives of children and their families from all over the world. Her continued activism in politics alongside Dennis over the years was an example of her strong character and sense of civic duty, and she was always concerned about the well-being of those around her.

For those who had the privilege of meeting Rae, you know she was always very clear where she stood on any issue. Not only would she let you know where she stood, she would also happily help you know where she thought you should stand as well. This came from her passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. She could sway opinion with her gentle charm equally as well as scolding with pointed finger - just ask Rod Blum! Her presence brightened every room, and she connected with others in a very special way. Her soul was as comforting as a cozy warm blanket.

Although Rae's health declined over the past few years, her spirit was always strong, supported by the great care Dennis provided. Her wish was for us to know that she was content in having lived a full life. She wanted her life to be celebrated, not mourned. After time with family and friends in celebration, Rae’s ashes will be taken to her final resting place in Hawaii to be placed next to her mother and father at the Nu’uanu Memorial Park.

So many have offered their thoughts and prayers. Please know that your heartfelt love and concern for our family is appreciated immeasurably. Many have asked what more they could do to help and honor her. This fund is set up to assist with the cost of end-of-life arrangements, memorial services, and out-of-pocket medical expenses. Any amount would help in honor of Rae, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

With Aloha and Love,

The family of Rae Seaton
