Lalo Alcaraz's Trip to Pine Ridge
Donation protected
I am hoping to raise some funds for my upcoming May 1-2, 2015 trip to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Donations will go towards my airfare and cartooning supplies for the almost sixty native students from American Horse School signed up for the workshop. "Without Reservations" cartoonist Ricardo Caté and I are going to conduct these cartooning workshops on May 2nd. This first ever of its kind conference was set up by the group UNITY to bring experienced journalists to teach at this Oglala Lakota reservation.
I appreciate any amount you can give, I was prepared to pay everything out of pocket, but I'm a little squeezed for funds until the Fall, so please help your friendly neighborhood cartoonist get to those workshops!
To be completely clear and transparent, my flights from DC to Rapid City, South Dakota, plus car rental to drive to Pine Ridge and then fly back to LA are around $1200, because I'm not flying out from Los Angeles. I am working at the Smithsonian as a consultant for the Natural History Museum on April 30. This makes travel double the cost of what a round trip from LAX to Rapid City would be. Also, I'd like to raise at least $500 to purchase enough art supplies for 60 students, like sketchbooks, paper, pens, pencils etc.
I am also asking a couple of big companies to see if they'd help, everybody will be given much shout outs, regardless of amounts donated!
