Rebuilding Whalemina!!!!
Donation protected
There once lived a shimmering colorful whale on Beach 95th Street in Rockaway Beach. Whalemina was brought to Rockaway from the Central Park Children’s Zoo, serving as our unofficial mascot for years. She was one of many things lost during Hurricane Sandy— destroyed by the tide, pieces of her mosaic skin were left scattered all throughout Rockaway.
In order to bring Whalemina back to Rockaway, artist and creator (Geoff Rawling) and author of "Whalemina" (Laura Cryan) have been selling books and kites and fundraising to rebuild a sustainable mobile replica.
Using non-profit "Projects For Peace" as our conduit, 100% of the proceeds from the story of Whalemina are going toward this project. Nevertheless, this is a process that has proven to be much more lagging than we had hoped.
We want to bring Whalemina back!! But in order to build her in a timely fashion, we are going to need some help.
The quicker you donate to reach our goal, the sooner Whalemina returns!!!!
So here is the plan:
Geoff has a boat. A fiberglass model of Whalemina will be built on top of it allowing her to be moved and displayed all over Rockaway. The goal is to put Whalemina right back where she was on Beach 95th Street, meanwhile, she can also be moved and taken to events, such as the Mermaid Parade, or onto the boardwalk, or even trailed behind the Dragon Boat for a swim in Jamaica Bay.
It's Whalemina 2.0
Whalemina is a symbol of home in Rockaway... and it's just not the same without her.
Let's get her back where she belongs.
Anything helps!
