To see a quadriplegic child who was unable to hold his head upright be able to hold his head upright all the way around the arena, to hear a child who had not typically spoken communicate with his horse, to watch a child who previously could not reach across his midline reach across his body to grab a ring, or to see a student sit upright that didn’t previously have the core strength to do it, to see all these things makes me know that we’re doing the right thing.
To watch children be able to focus and regulate themselves despite their ADHD, to watch challenged children learn conflict management, responsibility, problem solving, leadership, and caring for others, makes our efforts worthwhile.
Riley Equine Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit therapeutic riding center that uses the power of horses to help individuals who suffer from physical, mental, or emotional disabilities, illness, or trauma. The only paid staff are the five certified instructors and the occupational therapist. All other help is volunteer.
Riley Equine Center operates as a service to Boonville and the surrounding communities and our mission is to provide an educational and therapeutic experience for children and adults through horsemanship to strengthen body and mind in order to improve quality of life.
The expenses are high. The 60’X96’ indoor climate controlled arena must be paid for and maintained. The wonderful therapeutic horses must be fed and cared for, and the saddles and equipment must be provided and maintained. The center does not recieve any state funding so it is largly supported by donations from generous individules like yourself.
Our goal at Riley Equine Center is to never have to turn a student away due to financial hardships or their inability to pay. To do this, we have scholarships available for needy students who can benefit from our services. We are asking for donations to help keep the scholarship fund open in order to help all who come to us! Every dollar donated will help ensure a student in need gets the opportunity to learn and grow from our enthusiastic horses and staff! Help us make a difference in a student’s life!
