My parents were just one of the many Americans trapped on the island of St. Maarten during Hurricane Irma's path of destruction. Many people don't understand that most Americans trapped on the island didn't choose to stay...their time shares and hotels did NOT inform them that Irma was a hurricane and in addition to that, most resort staff evacuated their personnel before informing their guests. Fortunately, my parents have made it off of the island but at an astronomical expense-just airfare alone to get them back home to Clarksville, TN is $1,200-and did we mention they had to sign a contract with the government agreeing to payback their evacuation flight (they were told they would receive the bill in 30 days and had 30 days to pay the balance in full)? I can't even begin to imagine what that's going to cost. Between flights, hotels ($300/night for at least 5 nights) and items missing-we've tried to do it on our own but it's becoming extremely difficult-especially with the price gouging that has been going on! My Dad is a veteran and retired law enforcement-my Mom does real estate but her primary job is the care of my Dad who has numerous injuries and cannot work. All of their income is from disability and SSI-which is a fixed income. We are so blessed they are safe and coming home and any help you can give will be appreciated. By the way, any funds left over WILL be donated to a relief fund! Thank you everyone, for your prayers and support❤
