MEET RICHARD ANKRAH, Entrepreneur, Dad and good Friend
Hello. I’m Tip Kilby and I am so happy to introduce you to my friend, Richard Ankrah. Richard is a 37-year-old single father of two children and lives in Accra , the capital city of Ghana . The country of Ghana is making great strides, however, most of its citizens lead a daily struggle to lift themselves and their families from crushing poverty. Richard is trying to grow his young retail business and also become a community leader in several projects which he has started.
I met Richard on a Facebook forum several years ago, and we quickly became online friends. I came to admire him for his entrepreneurial aspirations, unlimited optimism, and work ethic. He is devoted to his two children and also has care responsibilities for his disabled mother.
Since Richard and I met, he has taken an empty shipping container and converted it into a small neighborhood convenience store. Richard’s vision is to extend his product offerings inside the store and to offer a small café/lounge outside to attract more patrons and provide a community hub. In order to make his vision into reality, he needs more funds than I can personally offer, so here we are at GoFundMe, hoping that some of our friends and acquaintances will open their hearts and help Richard achieve his dreams.

IN RICHARD ANKRAH'S WORDS
Dear friends and family,
My name is Richard Ankrah and I own a small container shop by the main road close to the beach in my community in a country called Ghana. I sell soft drinks such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Malta Guinness as well as bottled water and alcoholic drinks like beer and other locally made ones.
I have realized the need to expand this business by including other daily demanded products from customers. These include some daily provisional products such as bread, milk, sugar, toiletries, and airtime voucher cards.
We would like to introduce a mobile money service by acquiring the certificate to become a mobile money merchant. Mobile money is a service provided in which people can easily send money and receive money with their cellphone. They can walk up to my shop, to pick up cash at any time. Most people do not have access to traditional banking services in my community so this is a vital service to the public.
My small shop is situated at a vantage point with high visibility and traffic since it is close to the main road. The road follows along the beach. We really need some signs on our building to tell passersby that this is a retail store.
I also have a good space in front of my shop by which customers can relax and have a view of the beach and roadside scenery. I, therefore, need your support to enable me to provide sound speakers, fix some canopies and some plastic chairs in order for customers to sit and enjoy their drink and listen to music.
Another most important reason why I am making this humble appeal is sanitation. I want to cover the gutters around my shop so that customers will not be exposed to germs and other related diseases.
This shop is my livelihood and provides support for my two young children as well.
Therefore, I am seeking to raise an amount of $4000 to be used for four specific purposes:
1) to expand the types of items that I carry in my store to better serve my community and to improve my profits;
2) to provide a more reliable and regular income for me and my children;
3) to fund needed improvements to my shop for customer comfort and safety;
4) to provide some start-up funds for two community projects I am involved with that aim to clean up our local beach and employ our local youth as travel guides to people visiting our locale.
I am appealing for your financial support to help me achieve these goals by first of all financially assisting me to solidify my small container shop to stand firmly to serve many customers and make good sales by providing the needed goods and services stated above.
