rising strength
Rising Strength is an up and coming non-profit with the mission of spreading awareness to the violence that occurs against women, while also promoting self defense and fitness. On September 21, 2013, team member Rachel Layer was attacked from behind in her home by an intruder. Fortunatly, she was able to fight her attacker off and get out of the house to find help before she was critically injured. The man who is believed to have attacked Rachel, went on to rape two women several days later and is HIV Postive.
Running races after the attack provided an outlet for Rachel to find peace after the attack and is what introduced her to several of the members on this team. Five months after the attack Rising Strength was started. The women on this team all share a passion for running, health and advocacy for women. More importantly the women in this group have all had to overcome obstacles and struggles but continue to rise and grow stronger. Please help us spread the message of Rising Strength as we take on 208 miles together! www.risingstrength.com
The 208 Mile Blue Ridge Relay, which is one of the longest running relay races in the United States, takes place in the picturesque Blue Ridge and Black Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina.
