Hope for Guatemala Disaster Victims

Dear friends,

Every day we are surrounded by pain, hurt and need. Sometimes we feel the weight and at other times we feel numb to it. Needs are everywhere. Trying to meet all of them is impossible. Then there are some days where the numbness breaks and with it our hearts. Last Thursday was one of those days.

A massive landslide caused by heavy rains buried about 125 houses and with them several hundred people in the village of Santa Catarina Pinula, near Guatemala City. As of this day 186 people have died and authorities estimate that the number of disappeared could be as high as 500 people. Husbands, wives, sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, siblings, close relatives and friends are still missing. Right now rescuers are digging and searching for survivors. A Christian church with about 40 people in it was still in service and was covered by the landslide the night of the disaster.

As we write this, families mourn and wait. Mothers wait to see if their children will be found. Fathers have lost their families. These families that survived and the ones that live near the disaster area were moved to public buildings for shelter. This is a tragedy that has reached out and touched people all over Guatemala.

The coming hours and days are vital. However, the need will continue long after the news and rescue crews have gone home. Families have lost everything; families that had very little, have nothing now. This is where you come in. As God’s chosen people we are blessed to be a blessing. We must rise in this moment to help those in need.

Hope4Guatemala Ministry has met with the local government and with other non-governmental organizations to aid the victims of the disaster. The government promises to provide a new location for the homeless families and is requesting to charity organizations to help provide the houses. We believe that with God’s provision and your support we can contribute with 10 metal houses and 10 wood-stoves for 10 families of the over one hundred homeless families. Each house will cost USD2,500.00 and each stove USD250.00. So the total amount of money we need is USD27,500.00.  Later on we will also need the help of volunteer construction teams to build the houses, for which we will publish the possible dates to start the project.

In order to meet these goals, Hope4Guatemala Ministry is now raising funds to help these families who have lost not only their love ones, but also everything they owned. The funds will be used entirely to serve the least of these brothers of Christ in Guatemala.  Jesus said: "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:34-40.

We need your help.  How can you help? First, please pray for the consolation of all the relatives of the victims of the disaster. God listens, hears and responds to the prayers of His people! Secondly, please take a moment to donate and share this cause with your friends and family. Any amount you can give is greatly needed and appreciated and will be extremely helpful to these families who have lost everything!

Let us join hands together to make a difference in the name of JESUS.

Let's be the Hope4Guatemala.
