Tony Curry's new trailer fund
Grandfather Tony Curry, from Cirencester, has been voluntarily mowing the grass on the town's roundabouts for three years.
Yet on Easter Saturday this year, he was left crestfallen after his £1,200 trailer was stolen almost from under his nose.
The 70-year-old former councillor receives no money or expenses towards his work, despite going out once a week in the summer.
On Easter Saturday, Mr Curry was cutting the grass on one side of the roundabout next to Cirencester fire station and had left the trailer he used to transport the lawnmower on the other side, out of sight.
A thief pulled up in front of the trailer, attached it to the back of their vehicle, and drove away.
Mr Curry could not believe it and has had to fork out another £1,200 for a new trailer.
He was so overwhelmed to hear of so many people wanting to donate money so he could buy a new trailer - but he said he felt he just could not accept any cash.
So the Standard newspaper has set up this account so all the people who want to donate, can. And maybe, as a community, we can raise enough for a kind-hearted man who really takes pride in making Cirencester look nice.
The trailer was stolen between 5.30pm and 6pm on Saturday, while he was mowing the Bristol Road roundabout.
Witnesses are urged to call 101 quoting incident 344 of April 4.
