Culturally Relevant Curriculum

Donation protected
RJN! is in the second year of its campaign to promote culturally relevant curriculum (crc) and cultually responsive schools. There is a great need for non-white children to see themselves in the schools curriculum and textbooks that they are educated with everyday. CRC increases student engagement, self-esteem, grades, and produces better students.

In our first year of the campaign we attended conferences, conducted research, hosted webinars, and gave one demand to our local school board (Dayton Public).  We demanded that they include two books into the school curriculum, by policy,  (Mis-edcation of the Negro by Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Up From Slavery by Dr.  Booker T. Washington).

In the second year, our demands were answered by the school board and the two books were added to the course of study. We also put our research done from the first year into a toolkit (rjnohio.org/crctk) and put it online for free.

We became the eight chapter of the Dayton Browder Scholars Program are educating youth directly, on Saturdays, using the book 'From the Browder Files'. Culturally relevant curriculum toolkit preview

Your donation to this campaign will help us to:

-send students to Washington, D.C. in June to attend the Browder Scholars conference with the other nine chapters

-stipend our Project and Assistant Project Manager to prepare and deliver culturally relevant curriculum in our community

-stipend our Parent Organizer to educate and energize parents on how to advocate for crc.

-stipend our Director to push for curriculum change at the school district level; meet with school board members, school superintendent and cabinet members

-organize and host 'Youth Cultural Movie Nights' so that youth have a safe place to go on the weekends with food and movies that are culturally relevant

-continue our webinar series (rjnohio.org/webinars)

Racial Justice NOW! is committed to dismantling structural and institutional racism in all areas of people activity. Our primary focus is on the institution of education and lifting up the voices of dis-empowered Black parents and children.
