This beautiful camp is owned and operated by the Fourth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Located in Cassopolis, Michigan on 57 acres of landscaped terrain overlooking Stone Lake, Camp Baber hosts a variety of religious, educational and recreational activities throughout the year. In addition to being used extensively by the AME Church, the Camp houses events from nearby communities, colleges and universities, and other faith-based institutions. In years past, the Urban League of Chicago, Notre Dame and Western Michigan Universities have utilized its facilities.

Camp Baber has four dormitory buildings that house 110 persons. Additionally, the Lucille Thomas Lodge on campus has 24 single rooms for double occupancy that contains two queen-size beds, private bath/shower, and comfortable furnishings. Rev. Ralph Jackson, Camp Manager, works to maintain Camp Baber's Class A rating as a State of Michigan Adult and Child Resident Camp

While the Fourth Episcopal District has utilized the Camp throughout its divisions for program development; ie,. ministerial, missionary, laity, youth, and christian education, it has been the initiation of a program of excellence for the performing arts at Camp Baber that catapulted the Camp into national prominance and generated excitement with unlimited possibilities. The first music and performing arts camp experience was initiated in 1997 as the vision of Beverly Thomas while her husband, Robert Thomas, Jr., served as Bishop of the Fourth Episcopal District. In four years time, the course offerings evolved from band and orchestra, to include creative writing, jazz, and dance. For a brief period, the program was discontinued but the interest and enthusiasm never waned. Now, under the inspirational episcopal leadership of Bishop John and Rev. Cecelia Bryant, this wonderful opportunity for our young people to experience excellent instruction in the arts has returned to Camp Baber. Renamed after its founder, the Beverly Thomas Fine Arts Institute seeks accomplished musicians, dancers, writers, actors and graphic artists ages 12 thru 19, to come together the week of June 20 - 27, 2015 for an exceptional performance opportunity.
