Robert’s Beautiful Day Foundation
Losing a man like Robert Brace leaves a tremendous hole in our families, our groups of friends, and the greater community. He was a freedom fighter, a teacher, a hard worker, an uncle, a friend, and a steady ray of sunshine in many of our lives. We will never fully recover from his loss, and want to keep his indomitable spirit alive. In Robert’s honor, his friends and family are setting up a fund to keep his essence, and important works, shining on.
Robert appreciated nothing more than a beautiful day. He was wise enough to know that a beautiful day is constrained neither by weather, current state, nor the stresses of the world. A beautiful day can be had by anyone, at any time, and in the smallest ways. His generosity was the stuff of legends. The only thing that brought him more joy than having a beautiful day himself, was to make a beautiful day happen for someone else. We can think of nothing more befitting Robert’s legacy than helping others.
The Robert’s Beautiful Day Fund will collect donations (initially, in lieu of flowers) and distribute them to people who experience disabilities and would like to have a beautiful day. This can include things like going to lunch with friends, purchasing clothes or goods, buying CDs, or getting gifts for others. It can cover any sort of transaction that will make the day a little brighter and put smiles on the faces of the people they love.
There will be an application process and we are envisioning a monthly or bi-monthly selection process. We are also going to cap the requests at $50 because we’d like as many people as possible to experience these beautiful days, and Robert knew that you don’t need to spend a ton of money to have. ($50 bought a lot of CD’s!) Robert’s beloved nephews will assist in making the selections based on whose application they feel would most embody Uncle Rob’s spirit and legacy.
The hope is that going forward we will have a yearly fundraiser on April 1, Robert’s birthday. Details will follow at a later date.
We are also planning to start a website to archive Robert’s many great deeds. It will share pictures, stories, and preserve the heart, humor, and wisdom of the man we first called Bobby, then Robert, and eventually Big Rob, Bracey, Brace Face, and Uncle Rob ❤️
100% of all funds donated will go to people who submit applications, all other costs of the fund (annual fund raiser, web site, etc.) will be covered by the Vecchione family and other friends of Robert who wish to contribute.
