My desire to raise money stems from my passion to help those in need. For many years I have traveled all over the country and out of the country, to help others.
Last year I moved to Rockville, MD, and quickly found myself drawn to the homeless. While I don't have the money to help them, I still manage to find a way , be it a bagged lunch, or art supplies for a homeless artist. I also take the time to talk to them and hear some of their stories.
I now have several homeless friends and I am richer because of their friendships. It's amazing and humbling when you take a moment to acknowledge a homeless person. While we have our daily financial headaches and bills to the ceiling, a homeless person wonders where they'll sleep or when they'll eat next. Just like you and me, they have histories and moms and dads and families!
My goal is to offer these kits throughout the year. The kits contain hygiene items as well as seasonal items that I hand out in the city of DC. My hope is to let the homeless know they are not forgotten and that these kits offer them a way to feel better about themselves. Along with the kits I offer a pamphlet as to where they can obtain free services that may be their way off the streets and into jobs and hopefully a home. It's a valiant attempt but it's worth it to me to offer a fellow human being some dignity.
