Help me Buy a Bicycle

Those who've known me for a while know that I used to do email anti-spam and network security. Unable to find steady work in that field, the past few years have been a slow and not particularly deliberate transition to "something else."

As many of you may have guessed by the increasingly frequent photos of vegetables on Facebook and my several days a week volunteering my time atAbundantly Green Certified Organic Produce, a VERY local farm run by long-time friends and fellow SF fans Marilyn Holt and Clifford R. Wind, that  something else is farm work.

The work I used to do with email requires an intense focus and concentration which I'm increasingly unable to maintain, and also requires I stay seated for long periods which my issues with microsleeps during the day interferes with. What I used to enjoy doing now generates only consternation as I struggle to focus and occasionally even lose consciousness. I have fewer issues when I work standing up, and work which involves motion also allows me to defocus a bit.

Contact with the soil on a regular basis does seem to aid my depression. It hasn't gone away by any stretch of the imagination, but I can cope.

But moving forward, if I'm going to be out at the farm working (and being paid) more than just one or two days a week. I'm going to need transportation. I'm looking for a bicycle with an electric assist. Something other than my recumbent (which can't be loaded onto the bike racks on the buses).

But these last three years have been very tough financially and continue to be.  So I'm asking for help. I'm looking at a used electric assist bike, rather than the new one pictured, but the bike will be similar to the one shown. If I can raise additional funds, those can be spent on reflective clothing and monthly bus passes.

No, buying a car is straight out. Not only can I not afford it, there are safety issues putting me behind the wheel of a car (See: microsleeps. Yes, they are scary, and I've had them since my 30s).
