Russ Gibb Memorial Scholarship

For those of you who knew him, Uncle Russ Gibb was many things... From a rockstar "killer" (Paul is dead), to a rock and roll promoter bringing a new world to Detroit and to rock and roll, to a teacher of many things including video, to a friend and beyond. Big Sur taught us all something - and always pushed for us to learn more. He found opportunities for so many, and often put his own money behind it to make opportunities for those who might not have had them. Very often, these gifts of generosity were quiet and in the background - Russ did this to help others, not to gain the spotlight. Sure there were plenty of other times Russ danced into the spotlight, but not for the same reasons...
So Russ asked in his memory that we start a scholarship - and for those who can contribute via check, we will glady accept gifts via the "Dearborn Cable Communication Fund". For those who would rather make it simple and charge away, we are offering this GoFundMe.
Funds will be governed and no money will be taken out for administrative costs (other than what GoFundMe charges for processing).
So instead of getting a hair cut (well, maybe you should anyway) - give to the scholarship to allow others to learn like you did. They may not learn Reality 101 the same way we did from Russ, and nor will they learn about rock and roll and the MC5 and many other bands live on Grand River, but they will continue their education and honor Russ.

To make it clear, I am a former student, friend, and have been involved in Russ’s care for years now. In addition, I am an executor of estate and have been involved in his memorial service. I live in Dearborn and will be a part of the scholarship committee that Russ asked to be setup. The funds will be used for deserving high school students regardless of area of study, background (socio, ethnic, gender, economic, etc) to assist with tuition to the school of their choice. We will establish a committee to blind evaluate applicants and distribute funds annually.
