STEAM Education at Russell School

Russell School is a K-2 school in the Gray, New Gloucester School District. There are approximately 280 students enrolled.
As Technology changes, traditional methods of teaching science and technology are rapidly changing as well. Textbooks, along with the occasional experiments are not sufficent. Students need a hands-on approach that allows them to engage in their subject. Learning through problem solving, creating, designing and collaboration. This way of learning is essential to prepare them for the career paths of the future. Science & Technology, interpreted though Engineering and the Arts, all based in Mathematical Elements, or STEAM as it is often refered to, is what we will enhance in classroom learning for the children at Russell School in Gray, Maine.
The Patriot Parents (PTA) will be working towards adding STEAM resources and materials to classrooms, enhancing STEAM based training for teachers and involving STEAM professionals from local businesses and industries into all K-2 classrooms.
The Patriot Parents have collaborated with Teachers and Administrators at Russell School to develop a plan which will enhance the learning experiences for all children at Russell School. We believe working together that we can accomplish this goal of giving the children an education that goes above and beyond the standard of learning. Together the Patriot Parents, Teachers and Administrators at Russell School will work to enhance STEAM learning experiences for all students.
What we are raising money for:
Lego Education Kits:
2nd grade - $1,400
1st grade - $1,150
Kindergarden - $1,120
Staff Development - $3,000
Classroom Kits for hands-on experiments - $2,000
Field Trips/In School Demonstrations - $2,800
We appreciate any contribution large or small! Children for years to come will benefit from your contribution. Please help us, help the Teachers at Russell School give their students the education they invision for them. Our Teachers have the visions, the plans and the excitement and we hope to give them the supplies they need to make it happen! Thank you!
