Ryukyu Soul: Okinawa Car Culture

Donation protected

After falling in love with Okinawa, I took notice of a very unique automotive lifestyle culture there. In fact, I believe it is uniquely different than the car culture in the rest of Japan. In the modern day Ryukyu Kingdom, people treat their cars as if they're extensions of themselves: as if they have souls of their own. Thus, the name Ryukyu Soul  came about (also, like the Facebook  page).

I penned the name in 2007 with the assistance of local drifters on the main island. Soon, I created a tumblr blog where I uploaded photos I took and reblogged photos found online that showed a bit of the car culture in Okinawa. I had no idea that the blog would become as popular as it is today.

Drawing inspiration from industry heavyweights such as MotorMavens, Canibeat, and Speedhunters, I would like to focus all of my efforts in documenting the car culture of Okinawa full time. This will be achieved through media coverage (photo, video, written pieces) of automotive events in Okinawa, driver and garage profiles, photoshoots, and more. A dedicated website will be created to include a store selling merchandise so that everyone can be part of the movement.

In order for this to happen, I need your help. I have dumped my entire savings into this to achieve this six-month goal of $50k. It seems like a daunting task, but it is attainable. Please donate what you can and I promise that I will do my absolute best to always bring everyone quality content once goals are met.

Peace.
