Malawi Medical Funding Help
Donation protected
My name is Charlotte and I am currently volunteering in Malawi with Urunji child-care trust.
During my stay here I have met the Mazikoti family in the village where I am living. Their story has touched me so that I wish to help them further.
The family are living in very poor conditions, with holes in the roof of their house, windows bricked up and nowhere comfortable to sleep or study.
The six children, although bright, are unable to attend school regularly. Working instead to help keep the family afloat. The father, who has left to re-marry, does not support them financially. They are left to rely on the few crops they can yield from the small plot of land they have close by.
Underpinning all this is the mother, Chipolilo, is in very poor health. A large cyst on her lower lip is making life painful and a struggle. This illness developed two years ago and has been very aggressive. Despite attending a government free hospital she has received no diagnosis and therefore, no treatment. A private hospital would charge money the family do not have. It is likely that Chipolilo will not be able to receive treatment within Malawi, with India or South Africa being the next choice.
Therefore I would like to ask you all to help in the small ways you can. At Urunji we propose to fundraise for:
- assessment, diagnosis and prognosis for the mother,
- treatment, if needed, and travel costs,
-helping develop better living conditions through; repairs to the house, basic home items, aiding in buying and farming more land,
- ensuring the children attend school, and are able to study in good conditions at home( ie lighting etc)
We have costed these proposals and have set a realistic goal of £3500.
Even the smallest of donations count and if you are unable to give please spread the word and help in other ways, a quiz night or cake stall !! The crazier the idea the better!
Im excited to see this families lives change and hope that you will help them in achieving that.
Thanks!!
