Help Elsa Survive the NYPD

Donation protected

I am Elsa's partner (Heather) and am helping her to create this go fund me.  I was in the streets with her during the Shut Down A14 demonstration. I was there in the aftermath of her attack.

But what I want you to know is what an incredible spirit Elsa has.  How she spreads joy to those around her and inspires people to action.  She has a light that no one can dim.  I am continually taken by how her presence can pull people together.

She has as many jokes ready in any one moment as she does facts about police brutality.  I am in awe of her commitment to the #blacklivesmatter movement.  She has affected people in ways even she is not aware of.

Read what she has to say below, help her and us out with a donation if you can, but also keep talking about police brutality, keep pushing for change, keep pushing for people to understand these racially motivated crimes of the state.  She will need to be quiet and heal, so I ask each of you to be a voice for her.

This is what she would like to say about her work and the events of A14:

I am a comic who works with a non-violent activist group, NYC Shut It Down whose actions have been based in Grand Central.  We seek to educate the public at large about police  brutality and racial disparities in our justice system.

Recently I joined Cop Watch in NYC, an Anti-Police Brutality patrol unit.  During the national Shut Down A14 demonstration I performed Cop Watch duties, including filming arrests and monitoring violent behavior from police officers.

While peacefully demonstrating and utilizing my right to film police activity I was violently assaulted by an unknown member of the NYPD.  The assault required an ambulance and a brief stay in the ER.

See below for a video of the incident.

I am turning to my network of friends, comedians and activists for support at this time.   I am unable to work as I recover from injuries sustained in the attack.  My partner has also taken time off of work to care for me and lost her phone during chaos of the hospital visit.

Current needs are:
Coverage of living expenses during recovery
A new phone (mine was damaged) to continue recording police activity
A phone for my partner
Help to pay off medical expenses
