Sam's Recovery
Donation protected
Sam was on a trip to Big Bear with his friends on July 15 when he had a very bad crash on his mountain bike. He was airlifted to the hospital in Loma Linda, where he underwent surgery for a broken vertebra in his back, and a crushed spinal chord. Sam spent a week in the PICU at Loma Linda before being transferred to California Rehabilitation Institute in Century City for his long-term rehab. He currently has no feeling or function in his legs, but we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery and will walk again. Recovery will not be fast or easy, but we are confident that God will provide and that he will guide Sam's rehab.
Working with our insurance company, it's finally been determined that the rehab center WILL be covered in network (an answer to lots of prayer!), but doctors' fees and some other ancillary services may not be covered 100%. There will also be many expenses for medical equipment and supplies once he is ready to return home. Additionally, modifications will have to be made at home to make it safe and livable for Sam. Understandably, this has placed a huge financial burden on the family.
It is never easy to ask others for help, but we truly can't do this alone. We have been overwhelmed by the response that Sam's accident has drawn from family, friends and the community, and are so grateful for everyone who has prayed for him and followed his story. Your support and encouragement mean the world to us! Thank you, and God bless you.
