After many suggestions to do so, Chris and I have started this page to raise funds for 1) a new engine on our van, and 2) a new camera so I can continue photography.
Our van engine went out in April. Although we'd love to be able to get a new loan or sell our van, trade it in -- we've looked at all those options and unfortunately the condition of our van, our income, our credit history and loan availability and the remaining balance on our loan -- so many other variables have shown us that our only option, at this moment -- is to get our van fixed. We are more than fine with this, as we hope to avoid debt and we've already put money into the van-- once we do this -- our van should work pretty decently for the next few years if all goes well. From what we've looked or have been quoted, it would be around $2,500 to fix the van -- buying a rebuilt engine and the labor fees. I included $3000 as a budget, just in case. If we found a cheaper way to do this, or were offered help or labor for free/trade -- we would take that option instead of course. If we had extra money left over, it would go to any overdue bills or loans we have, in order to advance/secure our finances more. None of the money will be used for anything personal or recreational if there is some left over.
$2,000 was budgeted for a new camera for Leah (me). Mine is over three years old and has had some damage to it. The shutter on the inside was accidentally bent, the contacts where the lens connect to the camera are damaged, my flash no longer works -- overall I've seen a HUGE decrease in quality, sharpness and color in the past year and a half. Over the past 5 months it's getting worse fast. I'm at the point now where I feel I am not meeting my clients expectations, especially in printing images -- nor can I trust that my camera will work any more. It sometimes will not focus on something and it takes it a minute to start working again. Doing births (or any life event -- catching a smile, kiss, etc) It's SO important to be able to guarantee that for people. The camera I'd get would advance my photography, and also allow me to do video as well! It's one step up from the camera I have now and can allow me to do more sessions and capture more for the friends, family and clients that I love. I LOVE doing what I do! I've given well over $7,000 worth of free sessions in the three years that I've done photography -- that makes me tear up and so so happy! I love that I can give people something that brings a light and hope to them - -give them something more than money or 'stuff'. I just wanna cry thinking I might be able to do that anymore.
To help raise funds and also GIVE back to people and offer a great gift for helping and loving on us -- Everyone who donates $100 will get TWO sessions to be claimed when I am in MN or MO (I go to both) I visit MN in the winter for about a month and a half and I also go in the summer. They can be used for anything except a birth or wedding - so yes, a newborn & maternity are usually $360 together but you can get them for $100 for both! And regular sessions are $160 so you are saving a ton!! :) And I'm excited to GIVE for people!!! :) :) The more sessions I get in MN for specific months, then I can guarantee I can come there. I'm in MO for most of all the year. You can gift your free session to someone who can't afford it, or just keep it for yourself. There is NO time limit on these at all. I do hope to be in MN this October (mid to early Nov), and then during the month of December (around Christmas time possibly, depending on my husband's work schedule). If you'd like to email me before you donate, go ahead and do so!!
If we don't get to our goal -- all money will be given back to you. So there is no worries that you'll donate and then not get a session because I don't have a camera or a car. I will only use the money once it's all received. :)
