Sarah's fight for health
Don protégé
Our beloved Sarah has been battling many health problems since the age of 12 causing her to spend a lot of time in and out of hospital, which is now most likely all related to Lyme disease.
This debilitating disease is a tick borne illness, which is recognized in many countries all over the world however, not yet in Australia. It has various strains and is often associated with many co-infections meaning that each case is very different and varies in severity.
Since May 2014 Sarah’s central nervous system has been attacked so severely that she has been left wheelchair bound at the age of just 22 with her whole life ahead of her.
Many doctors and specialists in Australia have been left stunned and confused at her complicated case and have struggled to find a cause for her deterioration.
After trying every treatment offered and undertaking 8 months of intensive rehabilitation with small improvement and seeing various specialists many saying they could not help her any further, she was told she should prepare for life in a wheelchair.
Sarah and those close to her refuse to accept that she may never walk again, so the search has continued with increasing expenses such as house modifications, customized wheelchairs, car modifications and various tests some pushing $2000, as well as antibiotic treatment costing approximately $2500 per week.
While waiting for final test results to confirm Lyme Disease all of our hopes along with Sarah’s are resting on an expensive treatment overseas where they have had many success stories and believe they may be able to help Sarah get back to her fun loving, active and happy self.
She has always been the type of person to put others first and is always willing to help those around her. Now she has been left in a position where she needs help from others in order to give her the best chance at living a full and healthy life.
Sarah has always been a very strong, determined and motivated girl and with your help we would like to give her the opportunity to fight like we know she will.
