Help Us Save SKEA: A Home for the Arts in Kona, Hawai'i

For over 40 years, the Society for Kona’s Education & Art (SKEA) has been a vital part of the rural South Kona community. It's a place where generations have gathered to create, learn, celebrate, and connect. From youth art camps and cultural workshops to community events and gallery exhibitions, SKEA has poured its heart and soul into serving this community since 1981.

But while we’ve been caring for others, we haven’t taken enough time to care for ourselves.

Today, our beloved and historic building is in deep disrepair. The walls are cracked. The electrical system is outdated. The grounds are overgrown. After decades of love and use, our campus is no longer safe or sustainable to operate in its current condition.

We’ve reached a turning point.

Without major repairs and without your support, SKEA may be forced to close for good.

What We’re Raising and Why

After countless hours of meetings, site evaluations, and planning, we’ve identified what it will take to bring SKEA back to life, stronger, safer, and ready to serve for another 40+ years.

Our goal is to raise $150,000 by or before October 2025.

This funding will allow us to:

✅ Repair and restore our historic main building

✅ Upgrade critical infrastructure (electrical, plumbing, flooring)

✅ Improve accessibility and safety across the campus

✅ Revitalize the grounds and gardens for community use

✅ Relaunch youth art camps, adult workshops, and local events

✅ Build a regenerative business model with reliable staffing and year-round programming

This isn’t just about saving a building. It’s about preserving a legacy, a home for the arts, for local connection, and for future generations.
