Save the UpRising Bakery!

The UpRising Bakery and Cafe in Lake of the Hills, Illinois is a neighborhood gathering place where customers come to enjoy great food and have a good time. When its owner, Corinna Sac, announced the bakery would hold a drag brunch for all ages in July 2022, she and the bakery became the target of haters, including local Proud Boys. The shop was targeted and vandalized on multiple occasions, staff and customers were harassed, and Corinna received countless hate-filled threats.

Despite being shaken, Corinna refused to back down. The Bakery went on to hold the drag brunch in August and many more since then - and it continues to be a safe space for people from all walks of life.

Sadly, UpRising Bakery is now at risk of closing at the end of March 2023 due to financial challenges brought on after weathering last year's attacks from bigots. People will lose their jobs and those of us who believe in tolerance and love will lose a safe space. We cannot allow the haters to win.
