Save InTalksicated: The Relaunch

Donation protected
InTalksicated Podcast is an independently produced uncensored comedy variety talk show that showcases personal, unfiltered, long form conversations with comedians, creators and characters. The podcast is based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and is produced and hosted by me -  Sarah MacLellan. I am a budding comedian and now professional podcast producer.

The Beginning
Back in 2017 I started InTalkiscated with a USB snowball mic, some friends and some drinks. I threw myself into learning about podcast editing - but truly has no idea what I was doing. Everything about the podcast was self taught - from editing, distribution and promotion.  I did a lot of learning my doing, and I certainly learned a lot of lessons the hard way.

In the early days of the podcast - I talked with friends who had interesting lives. I covered topics such as sex and sexuality,  gender, dating and relationships,  mental illness, the me too movement, confidence, addiction, grief and self esteem. I even had regular episodes about bad movies. Sometimes I went way off the grid and did episodes involving tarot readings and ghost hunting. InTalksicated was a true variety show by all means. It was me, in podcast form.  I loved providing my guests a platform to talk about their experiences, and the things they were passionate about in a completely uncensored and raw way.

Soon enough things shifted with the podcast when I decided I wanted to start talking to comedians.  I started connecting with local comics and also content creators outside my usual circle. It was not long before I fell in love with the live standup comedy scene - and found a bit of focus for the podcast. I learned that comedians made the best guests - they were open, honest and the conversation always included some laughs - no matter how deep the subject matter was.  They were the types of guests who were down to talk about anything.

Sad Girl Studio
As the podcast got better I started making small upgrades to my equipment and studio space (aka, my living room) to help increase the quality of the podcast. I also made the decision to start doing video as an added element of the podcast to increase audience engagement.

But as with anything involving content creation, there's always ways to upgrade. One of my main goals is to put a portion of the funds towards new mirrorless cameras, a new audio mixer, studio furniture (new table and chairs for guests) and sound proofing.
With the some help from contributions from the podcast Patreon, and a lot of my own money, I purchased XLR mics, webcams, lighting and other equipment to create Sad Girl Studio.

Community & Live Events
In the last two years of the doing InTalksicated I started to realize something I did not expect when I started it. Success for me was no longer about downloads, it became all about creating a sense of community amongst guests and listeners. People started getting to know one another through InTalksicated. It became a "go to" hub for entertainment and a great side kick to an already blooming comedy scene.

For influencers and creators - it was a place to come to promote currently projects or initiatives, but also give people a look into the person behind the art. And... it's always a fun time. For myself personally, there's no better feeling than knowing a guest had an enjoyable time on my show, feeling like they got something off their chest and could truly showcase their true self.

That sense of community grew even more when I did my first live event for my 3 year anniversary of the podcast.  This anniversary live show was a celebration of 3 years of podcasting, but also a comedy appreciation night for the guests who have been regulars on the show.

In the 4 years of producing InTalksicated I have:
Released consistent weekly content - 200 episodes within 4 years of podcasting.
Hosted 3 Livestream Marathons and multiple live streams.
Executed 2 successful live shows.
Enriched the local comedy community through providing a platform for comedians
InTalksicated 2.0: The Rebirth
After 200 episodes and 4 years of consistency, it's time to ramp things up. And I need your help!

To help improve and grow the podcast I am raising funds for quality re-launch and re-introduction of the podcast.  All funds raised will be put towards a new and improved podcast -  InTalksicated version 2.0. This will include new branding (the purchase of a professionally designed logo and cover art), a newly reformatted show and equipment upgrades to Sad Girl Studio.

Why donate?
While I have launched and produced InTalksicated on my own for 4 years, I would love to have the financial support to pay professions to assist me with this relaunch to  help introduce the podcast in a way that will help grow the show. While I love being self taught, I feel the show deserves a little makeover, with the help of professions.
I will also make some equipment upgrades with funds raised, which will increase the overall quality of the podcast.

Funds raised will go towards the following upgrades:
A branding make over (including a new logo and cover art)
Marketing (a new website)
Equipment upgrades (new mixer, mic arms, camera, etc)
Studio upgrades (soundproofing , lighting and aesthetics)
To get an idea of what exactly I am looking to purchase check out my Amazon Wish List

As a thank you, I am also offering some rewards to go along with certain donation levels.

How will I get there?
I will hire quality graphic design professionals and photographers  to deliver the re-branding  of the podcast
I will purchase equipment both locally and online that will increase the quality of the podcast.
I will work hard to create a new studio space, which enhance the sound quality of the podcast as well as the video aspect.
Once financially supported, I will rally a team to help me deliver this relaunch in a timely matter.

Thank You
As a small independently produced podcast, I appreciate any support you can give to this kickstarter campaign - whether it's sharing the link or making a donation. I have loved working on this podcast and will do everything I can to create a successful relaunch, if the kickstarter goal is met!
