Hello, all. Our names are Summer and Drew and we are the parents of a bundle of joy named Lexi.

Lexi is a black lab mix who recently turned 6 months old! We adopted Lexi when she was 15 weeks young from a local shelter and we became the happiest people on the planet. We are so fortunate to have found as loving, brave, and loyal of a puppy as she is.

Lexi has been struggling with a urinary tract infection (UTI) since she was adopted. We first noticed the illness when she was unable to be completely trained to withold from peeing in the house. After many, many trips to the vet and three antibiotics later, it became clear that this was something much more serious than a UTI.

Today was the big day. The big day that an utrasound needed to be done to diagnose the exact problem. On the way to the vet, Drew and I were optimistic in thinking that this could be a simple problem with a simple fix. Boy..we were wrong.

The ultrasonographer and vet came to the conclusion that Lexi is most likely suffering from an ectopic ureter. What an insanely harsh blow to the chest when a family member you love so much is suffering from an illness. This means that instead of opening into the bladder, the ureter empties into the urethra, vagina, or uterus. The fix to this is surgical, and can only be done by the best. If gone untreated, the ectopic ureter can lead to renal failure. This is why we are heading to the N.C. State University College of Veterinary Medicine to begin Lexi's further testing.

This is a website that describes her condition and gives an example of a puppy that had the same sickness and underwent surgery. There is a 2 year followup for the same puppy:

When I contacted N.C. State about a testing estimate, their answer was $2200 dollars (testing only, WOW). I am unsure of the cost of surgery, but will update my goal with updates from the vet.

We are unable to afford this treatment for our baby, but we hope generous individuals will contribute to saving her life. Every positive comment and every donation will mean the world to us. No matter how big or small, everything should be given the opportunity to live and have a second chance.

Thank you for your support

Love,
Lexi, Summer, and Drew
