Save The Music, Save The Dream Cafe

The Dream Café is a 120-seat restaurant and music mecca located in Penticton, BC. In 2010, it was ranked by CBC as one of the top three music venues in Canada.

The “Dream” opened in April of 2001 and is widely known across Canada as a musical gem. It is recognized among musicians as a very special venue to play in, as it’s a place where the artist can truly connect with the audience.


The Café regularly hosts music giants from far and wide. That list has included Judy Collins, Jeff Healey, Fred Eaglesmith, Colin Hay (Men at Work), Dan Hill and Harry Manx and Murray McLauchlan. Famed jazz pianist Michael Kaeshammer traditionally performs a five-night stand each summer. The list of talent that has graced the stage is long and bountiful and The Dream recently passed the 1500 show mark!

Operated by Pierre Couture and life partner Debra Rice for the first 14 years, after an unsuccessful attempt to sell the business, a co-op was formed by 130 members (so far). The musical entertainment remains consistent as they’ve remained involved with these aspects of the business.


Recently, after careful consideration, the Board of The Dream Cafe has reluctanlty been forced to take the responsible step of suspending operations. A perfect storm of financial issues has resulted in this suspension, which took effect after the sold out performance by “the Bills”, last Saturday, October 1

The food and beverage industry is tough, and sometimes unforgiving. We are hopeful now that problems have been identified the club will reopen with a new operations plan. Suggestions for consideration include opening on show nights only, offering only a tapas menu, and expanding the intended age demographic.

We all need live music in our lives and a warm place to share it. The Dream Café is this, the magic is in the energy that happens in the room. Once you have been a part of you it, you feel it, you see it. We need your help to keep this Dream alive.
